SUPPLY STORE TO OPEN IN NEW COUNTY ANIMAL CARE FACILITY

The Sacramento County Animal Care Facility has opened a new retail store for pet owners, the silver necklaces Outfitter. Pet supplies and gifts are available from $1 dollar and up. The store is run by the animal facility's non-profit 501(c) (3) affiliate known as TEAM - Teaching Everyone Animals Matter. Store Hours are 11 to 6 Wednesday through Friday and 11 to 5 on Saturday & Sunday.

"This is a dream come true," said Pat Wilcox, founder and director of TEAM. "Funds brought in from this store will be used for special medical needs of shelter animals such as flea treatments, offsite adoption events and monthly spay/neuter clinics."

The silver pendants group also funds popular shelter adoption programs run through PetsMart stores; Friends of Unwanted Rabbits (FUR), LAPCATS adult cats at the Elk Grove Laguna store and dog adoptions in the Rancho Cordova store. They also support the wonderful shelter volunteers who care for all the animals.

Pat Wilcox founded the nonprofit in 1997 when she was the director of the animal facility from1992 to 2002. Though now retired, she has been running silver rings for twelve years and remains very involved in animal issues.

"With the opening of the new store, I hope to help further my dream that for Sacramento that no animals are euthanized due to lack of housing space," Wilcox added.

MILLION GIFT TO OREGON STATE UNIVERSITY PUSHES CAMPAIGN PAST $550 MILLION

A $1 million gift to support an international exchange program in Oregon State silver cufflinks College of Business has brought the university's first comprehensive fundraising campaign past the $550 million milestone on its way to its $625 million goal.

"To see this kind of steadfast dedication from the university's friends and alumni is incredibly heartwarming - and that's all the more true at this time of year," said OSU President Ed Ray. "These gifts are an investment in OSU's future. They are having an amazing impact on our students and faculty and on their work to benefit the state of Oregon and our world."

The $1 million gift will provide scholarships for the Arthur Stonehill International Business Exchange Program and support curriculum development on international topics in the College of Business. The exchange program was founded in 1987 by Stonehill, a former finance department chair who taught finance and international business at OSU for more than 20 years.

Donor Joe Lobbato, one of Stonehill's former silver earrings, earned his undergraduate and MBA degrees from OSU in 1981 and 1982. He was a founding partner of Accenture and currently resides in Thailand.

The Arthur Stonehill International Business Exchange Program is the largest program of its kind in the state. Through the exchange, each year approximately 60 OSU College of Business students enroll in programs in Austria, China, Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Norway, Singapore, Sweden and Thailand.

Professor emeritus Stonehill noted that more than a thousand students have taken part in the exchange. "When they come back," he said, "they all say the same thing: that it's been a life-changing experience."

He cites the example of Avelino Solomon, a 2009 business graduate from Albany, Ore., who spent five silver key rings in Thailand. In a report afterward Solomon wrote, "I've been positively affected in such a way that I can't describe it. This journey has made me even more capable of affecting positive change in our world, and I'm forever grateful."

IT'S NOT TOO LATE TO REDEEM EXPIRED GIFT CARDS

Illinois residents who received gift cards from previous holiday seasons may be able to cheap rings them for cash even once the gift cards expire, according to the Illinois State Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias.

Giannoulias' office is holding more than $5 million in unused gift card balances for Illinois residents. According to state law, gift cards can not expire for five years and businesses are prohibited from charging fees that diminish their value.

"Allowing for longer usage and bans on fees mean that gift cards won't stop giving and deters businesses from using them as sales gimmicks," Giannoulias said. "Even when gift cards expire, consumers are entitled to the monetary worth of the gift card and can recover their money from the state."

Even if a name isn't listed, the state may still cheap tiffany a consumer's unused balance. Most gift card retailers do not record the name or contact information for the purchaser or recipient. As a result, the unredeemed balances come to the state marked as "owner unknown." In order to receive a refund for the unused balance, the purchaser or recipient must file a claim with the Treasurer's Office using the serial number on the expired gift card.

Not all retailers that do business in Illinois send unclaimed gift card balances to the Illinois Treasurer's Office. Unused gift card balances are sometimes remitted to the state where the retailer is incorporated.

The sum of those balances can add up. According to research firm TowerGroup, an estimated $5 billion in gift cards went unused in the U.S. in 2009. Similarly, a Consumer Reports National Research Center survey found that 27 percent of adults who received gift cards during the 2006 holiday season had not used one or more of them nearly a year later. That is an increase from 2005, when 19 percent of consumers had one or more unused gift cards.

More than one-third of the survey's respondents said they didn't use the cards silver bracelets they either forgot about them, lost them, or the cards had expired, according to Consumer Reports. More often, consumers responded they didn't have time to shop or couldn't find anything to buy.

ASSEMBLYWOMAN WAGNER REMINDS CONSUMERS TO BE AWARE OF GIFT CARD EXPIRATION DATES

The New Jersey Assembly's Democrats issued the following news release:

Assemblywoman Connie Wagner on Tuesday reminded consumers to cheap earrings certain they clearly know all expiration dates and dormancy fees for gift cards and certificates they received this holiday season.

"Gift cards are becoming more and more popular and are regulated by state law, but consumers are often unaware of unreasonable expiration dates and hidden fees," said Wagner (D-Bergen). "Consumers should make sure they know all the rules so they get the most of out of their gift cards and avoid being hit with fees they never saw coming."

Wagner noted state law prohibits a gift card from expiring within 24 months from the date of purchase. A dormancy fee cannot be charged within 24 months of purchase or within 24 months of the last transaction. After this time period, the maximum dormancy fee is $2 per month.

Also, Wagner noted cheap jewelry the terms of expirations dates and dormanc y fees must be disclosed to the consumer by written notice in 10-point font displayed on the gift certificate or card, sales receipt or packaging, and by written notice of a telephone number in 10 point font displayed on the gift certificate or card, sales receipt or packaging.

Wagner has sponsored legislation (A-2449) that would incorporate prepaid bank cards into those provisions. Prepaid bank cards include mall gift cards issued by third party banks or other financial institutions that are usable at multiple, unaffiliated merchants.

Wagner also noted federal law effective in August will provide even more gift card protections.

"People just need to make sure they're aware of the rules and that state cheap key rings is being followed so they don't get taken advantage of," Wagner said.

OPERATION GIFT BASKET

With the support of Third Army, the Gittens' Family brought early Christmas presents to the necklaces at Camp Arifjan Dec. 23.

Every year, Operation Gift Basket brings the local community together to show their appreciation to the U. S. Military by distributing gifts to deployed Soldiers thanks to Sheila Gittens and her family.

Servicemembers have received more than 250,000 gift baskets thanks to the event since it started 15 years ago.

"Early in 1994, my son and Desert Storm veteran, Donnie, passed away from kidney problems," said Gittens. "To give back, my husband and I organized a traditional Thanksgiving meal and fed more than 2,500 servicemembers in honor of our late son." The organization has grown over the years. This year's event at Camp Arifjan featured gifts such as laptops, DVD players, televisions, and car stereos as a way to give thanks to those who serve.

"We are struck by U.S. money clips incredible resolve and unwavering professionalism," said Gittens. "We were equally touched by their age. Many of these people who have left their homes are younger than our son, Donny."

The key to Operation Gift Basket being a success is because of the support of volunteers, local leaders, and businesses who donate time, money, and gifts to the program.

"Volunteers worked around the clock to wrap each gift and stuff the baskets," said Gittens. "Bolts and bolts of wrapping paper, miles and miles of ribbon and thousands of rolls of tape were used."

Operation Gift Basket began in Kuwait 15 years ago, and now thanks to the logistical support of Third Army, reaches Iraq, Qatar and Afghanistan.

Just like these troops who never give up and maintain their resolve, I am also determined," said Gittens. "We do this for the young men and women. We do this for America and the coalition forces. We do this for Donny."

"May God bless our Soldiers, Airmen and Marines that are sacrificing their lives so tiffany engagement rings the world can live in peace and harmony," she added.

The conservationist is available for one year at $12 or two years at 10$ per year.

GIFTS POUR IN FOR GRANDMA'S KIDS

The holiday season was looking bleak for more than 200 elementary students who were in danger of tiffany their annual holiday party and gift exchange. But, thanks to the support of the Temple community, children from four Philadelphia public schools will have a happy holiday after all.

"The response has been amazing," said Joy Woods-Jones, program coordinator of Grandma's Kids, a Temple-sponsored after-school program designed to support the needs of children who reside with a grandparent.

Every holiday season, Grandma's Kids host a holiday party where each child enrolled in the program is given a special gift. The program depends on donations from an annual sponsor to supply gifts for their holiday party.

However, this year the program bangles lost its main contributor, leaving the children without toys for the first time since the program began its Christmas drive. That is, until Temple employees, students and staff members answered the call and made donations to the program.

"We have so many toys and donations now, we will certainly have a wonderful holiday party," Woods-Jones said.

Temple provides family support services to children in Grandma's Kids, who are placed in the care of grandparents or other relatives due to parental abandonment, substance abuse, illness, incarceration, neglect or abuse.

The program is partially funded by the Philadelphia Department of Human Services Division of rings-Based Prevention Services and serves children from ages seven to 12 years old who attend Blankenburg, Blaine, Harrison, McKinley elementary schools in the Philadelphia School District.
